Side Effects
If you develop severe chest pain, call the doctor immediately. Also seek immediate attention if you suffer sudden, severe abdominal pain after a dose of Imitrex. It could signal a blood vessel problem
.
Be careful not to inject Imitrex into a vein. This can cause a serious heart irregularity.
If your fingers turn pale, then blue, after a dose of Imitrex, you may have a circulato
ry problem such as hardening of the arteries. Be sure to let your doctor know.
This medication should not be used for other types of migraine headache. If the first dose does not relieve you
r symptoms, your doctor will re-evaluate you; you may not have migraine or cluster headache.

Other medical problems
Older adults¡XThis medicine has been tested in a limited number of patients between 60 and 65 years of age. It did not cause different side effects or problems in these patients than it did in younger
adults. However, there is no specific information comparing use of .Imitrex in patients older than 65 years of age with use in younger adults.

How to Use
Take Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ) tablets exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a
full glass of water. Take one tablet as soon as you notice symptoms of a migraine, or at any time during an attack. If your symptoms go away, but then return, you can take additional doses as needed e
very 2 hours, up to a maximum of 300 mg in 24 hours, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Never take more than this amount. If your symptoms do not improve at all, call your doctor before taking
any more doses of Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ). More medication will not further treat symptoms.

Cautions
Before taking .Imitrex,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to .Imitrex or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are brea
st-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking .Imitrex, call your doctor.
- you should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this d
rug affects you.
- remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.

Proper Use of This Medicine
Do not use .Imitrex for a headache that is different from your usual migraines . Instead, check with your doctor.
To relieve your migraine as soon as possible, use .Imitrex as soon as the hea
dache pain begins. Even if you get warning signals of a coming migraine (an aura), you should wait until the headache pain starts before using .Imitrex. Using .Imitrex during the aura probably will no
t prevent the headache from occurring. However, even if you do not use .Imitrex until your migraine has been present for several hours, the medicine will still work.
Lying down in a quiet, da
rk room for a while after you use this medicine may help relieve your migraine.
